Mango Medication
I created this piece (in a series) as a reaction to my own personal tension between mental illness and health. The fruit and medication represent my internal debate between natural and artificial healing. This work juxtaposes everyday objects—a mango, a pear, a prescription bottle, and a knife—set against a vibrant yet ominous background, evoking themes of vulnerability, nourishment, and intervention. The sharp blade, poised near the fruit, suggests the tension between vitality and harm, while the prescription bottle hints at dependency and the fragility of health. I used an interplay of warm, rich colors with the stark presence of the knife and medication to create an uneasy balance, inviting viewers to reflect on the precarious nature of life and the psychological weight of survival.
